Exelon Corporation is one of the
nation's largest electric utilities providing
electricity to over fi ve million customers,
and operates in the United States'
largest nuclear fl eet. Headquartered
in Chicago, IL, Exelon seeks business
partners who can provide quality
materials and services, cost-effi cient
solutions and achieve on-schedule
performance to help the company
safely meet the daily demands of
its sophisticated business.
Located in Joliet, Illinois, Exelon's
Business Services primary data center
is as critical to its operations as one
of its nuclear power plants. Scheck
Mechanical was contracted to complete
a major HVAC upgrade at the facility.
The project included the installation
of nine new down fl ow computer
room air conditioning units with
redundancy to run off the existing
building chillers, or independently
by way of roof mounted condensing
units. Also included was the installation
of a new 20 ton roof top unit and the
ductwork distribution system.
Under time sensitive requirements, the
Scheck Team, along with subcontractor,
Midwest Helicopter, was able to set
nine roof top condensing units in a
ten minute period from the arrival
of the helicopter, to its departure.
Scheck's crew also successfully executed
several diffi cult tie-ins to the existing
systems which included numerous
hot taps and line stopples.

After undergoing a $500 million expansion, Horseshoe
Casino in Hammond, IN is now the largest casino in
the Midwest. The casino now features 108,000 feet of
gambling space, with 3,200 slot machines, a theater and a
650 seat buffet. Scheck Mechanical's HVAC Division was
brought in to renovate the mechanical system in several
areas of the casino. Bill Boyd served as Project Foreman,
under Brian Ortiz, Project Executive. The project included
Hydronic and Refrigeration Piping, Ductwork, and
Equipment Installation.

Scheck Mechanical's Health Care
Division recently completed a major
renovation at Advocate Health Care's
South Suburban Hospital. The project
involved a complete gut and remodel
of the existing Immediate Care Facility,
and associated Mechanical Room.
New mechanical equipment, piping,
ductwork, and medical gas systems were
installed by Scheck's Team. This facility
will serve as South Suburban's new
Same Day Surgery Center.
General Foreman Bill Boyd and Project
Executive Brian Ortiz led Scheck's
team, which included several Scheck
Medical Gas Certifi ed Installers. The
medical gas portion of the project
included the installation of Medical
Air, Instrument Air, Oxygen, Vacuum,
and Nitrogen Systems. A new Waste
Anesthetic Gas System was installed by
Scheck's team including critical tie-ins
to the building's existing services.
The HVAC portion of the project
included the demolition of the existing
piping and ductwork, installation of (2)
New 16,000 CFM Air Handling Units,
(32) VAV Boxes, a new Unfi red Steam
Generator, (4) Humidifi ers, (6) Exhaust
Fans, Cabinet Unit Heaters, (1) Computer
Room Air Conditioning System,
and Finned Tube Radiation. Also

existing steam, hot water, and chilled
water systems.
Scheck's recent push to have their fi eld
forces achieve medical gas certifi cation
played an important part in helping
to provide the necessary craft labor
for this project. Scheck's Health Care
Team was also recently recognized
in a profi le article by Construction

Wisconsin is the home of SMWC (Scheck Mechanical
Wisconsin Corporation), but other Scheck companies often
collaborate on projects. Scheck Technical Services (STS)
has completed work on the entire Instrumentation Mechanical
Package, including bench calibrations, installations, loop
checks and start up support for the construction of BOC's
facility in Beloit, Wisconsin. Working with Foley Electric,
under the leadership of Marc Anderson, the project was
completed with a zero incident rate.
The facility will separate air cryogenically to produce over
700 tons a day of liquid oxygen and nitrogen for hospitals,
food processors, metals and chemicals manufacturers and
independent gases distributors in the region.

The ability to tackle the largest projects, yet provide solutions
on even the smallest jobs has been Scheck's formula for
success with the Dow Chemical Company. Few heavy
industrial piping contractors have a full service HVAC
division with an emergency service department. This unique
combination has allowed Scheck to provide service to Dow
on the process side, and commercial offi ce space as well.
In 2008, Scheck truly put their capabilities to work
for Dow in the Chicago area.
S
ome projects at the Alsip Facility included:
· New Knockout Pot Water Flush Piping
· Reactor 5 and 6 Piping
· Oxidizer Tank Replacement
· Transfer Header Piping
· Various Service Projects
Projects at the Wilmington Site included:
· Line 180 Nitrogen Piping
· Safety Shower Piping and Installation
· Installation of (5) 25-Ton Roof Top Units
· Line 550 Re-piping
· Miscellaneous plant maintenance projects
In addition to the Industrial Piping and HVAC work,
Scheck's General Contracting Group proved to be
outstanding resources at both Dow facilities.

PPL Electric, headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, controls more than 11,000 megawatts of generating capacity
in the United States. When piping work was needed at PPL's University Park, IL, Peaker Plant, Scheck Mechanical's
Team was called on by Lindblad Construction. Work included the replacement of the underground process drain
piping from the site's Six Gas Fired Turbine with Steam Recovery Units, modifi cation of 12 dual-jacketed storage tanks,
and installation of six new storage tanks. Most of the underground work and fi eld installation was completed under
diffi cult winter weather conditions with a year-end completion date looming. The Scheck Team not only completed
base contract work on time, but actually exceeded the customers end date by two weeks.
