As featured in the UA Journal
The Scheck family, spanning three generations of pipe fitters from Pipefitters Local 597, Chicago, Illinois, was deeply honored and equally proud after receiving a call from the UA Journal to run a feature article in the Heart of the UA commemorating the late Betty Scheck and the event in her name which raised over $1.5 million for the American Cancer Society. Two years after the heartbreaking passing in 1997 of Betty Scheck, her family decided to honor her spirit and her commitment to finding a cure for cancer by bringing people together each year to celebrate her life and the lives of those who have been touched by this disease. The event began as a walk for cancer, and eventually transitioned into a five-K run and one-mile walk christened the Betty Scheck Shuffle. The Scheck Family was also praised for its donation of a $1.6 million dollar building to Seguin Services upon the last running of the Betty Scheck Shuffle.
