CenterPoint Intermodal Center (CIC) located in Joliet, Illinois, is a 3,600 acre state-of-the-art, $2 billion Intermodal logistic center. The development includes a 1,000-acre Class I rail facility, 20 million square feet of industrial facilities and related container management facility. CIC will provide a critical transportation hub creating tremendous distribution effi ciencies for the region, as well as bring 16,000 new jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue to the Midwest region over the next 15 years.
Scheck managed the temporary and permanent
pipeline crossings of rail, road and utilities, along
with the upgrade and relocation pipelines ranging
from 6” to 42” in diameter. The primary goal was
to assure the integrity and the protection of the
extensive pipeline network within the CIC
boundaries. This took coordination with Integrys /
People Gas Light and Coke, Aux Sable, NICOR,
TransCanada /ANR, Vector/ Enbridge, Kinder
Morgan, Northern Borders, and BP Pipeline
Company to accomplish the 26 crossings
planned for the project site.
The project timeline began April 2009 with road and rail crossings and was completed in December with the project’s last road crossing and rail placement over the pipeline. During the process many of the communities’ concerns were addressed and processed immediately within the Center Point’s organization to maintain the project’s goal of being neighbor and environmentally friendly.
